A Lincoln native, Katie Pocras Halperin graduated with a Business degree in Finance and Risk Management degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and earned an MBA from the University of Minnesota. As co-founder and partner of Nebraska Home Sales, Katie gets things done. When Katie moved back to Lincoln, she and Rich Rodenburg started Nebraska Home Sales. Starting a company from scratch in an oligopoly market was far from easy.
Katie’s favorite thing about Lincoln is the public school system. “Teaching is a respected profession, and the citizens care about their schools. It’s not like this everywhere.” She also enjoys Pocras Park located in the Country Club neighborhood. “My kids never got to meet their grandfather. When we go to his park we get to see his name on the sign. And remember him.”
In her spare time, which is increasingly infrequent, Katie likes to walk her Portuguese Water Dog while listening to a book-on-CD. Or lose a chess game to her son, Jack. Or get skunked in Cribbage to her daughter, Talia. Or watch her husband, Lou, make dinner.
- 1-2-3
By Katie Pocras Halperin, Nebraska Home Sales Realtor
Garages. It’s as easy as 1-2-3. But what’s the right number? How many should you have? Are more garages better?
I think this has been scientifically proven: Garage Creep. It’s a condition where one’s belongs expand exponentially to fit the space. I like to say, “If you [...]
- Sure Signs of Spring
By Katie Pocras Halperin, Nebraska Home Sales Realtor
There are the typical signs of spring. The birds come back and build nests in hard to reach places. Your neighbor, the one with the perfect lawn, is getting a jump on everyone else. And kids running through the sprinklers when you still have on a jacket. [...]
- Romancing The Home
By Katie Pocras Halperin, Nebraska Home Sales Realtor
Online dating: what possibly does that have to do with buying a home? There is a plethora of online dating sites. And you can learn an awful lot about a person by their online ad. Or can you? Is all the information accurate? I read by the [...]
- Celebration
By Katie Pocras Halperin, Nebraska Home Sales Realtor
While many Nebraskans were off in Orlando for the football bowl game, I was bundled up (oh, man was it cold) in Celebration, Florida. Celebration is a town of about 7,500 people and is a Walt Disney master planned community. Essentially, it’s in the Orlando-Kissimmee area. Close enough [...]
- New Year’s Resolution
By Katie Pocras Halperin, Nebraska Home Sales Realtor
I’m not much for New Year’s resolutions. They don’t seem to stick. However, this year I’ve decided my house needs a resolution. And since this clearly doesn’t involve me, then just perhaps I’ve got a chance.
To start, House, you need to go a diet. I figure House can [...]
- Pulse of the Market
By Katie Pocras Halperin, Nebraska Home Sales Realtor
A common question these days is what’s going on with the residential real estate market? Are things getting better? Are the glory days back? I can point to many articles, statistics that claim good times are just around the corner. But I can also find supporting information [...]
- Fences
By Katie Pocras Halperin, Nebraska Home Sales Realtor
Remember the famous Shakespearean line from Hamlet? “To fence, or not to fence: that is the question:” Or something close to that. Why do homeowners want fences? Is it to keep people out or in?
A couple of homes ago, we had a fenced backyard as did our [...]
- You’ve Got Mail
By Katie Pocras Halperin, Nebraska Home Sales Realtor
Mailboxes. What possible can a mailbox have in common with a home sale? Not much, really. Most people don’t paya them any attention. But I do. Every once in a while I’ll have a home buyer tell me they “don’t want a home with one of those [...]
- The Grass Is Greener
By Katie Pocras Halperin, Nebraska Home Sales Realtor
The grass really is greener on the other side of the fence. No kidding. It’s been scientifically proven. The reason the grass looks greener is the angle the grass is cut. The grass looks greener, thicker from afar. If you’re standing in your own yard, looking down, your [...]
- Who’s Knocking?
By Katie Pocras Halperin, Nebraska Home Sales Realtor
I love front doors. While is Lisbon, Portugal, my kids and I had a blast finding fabulous tiled doors. Doors can say so much about a house and who lives there. Brushing aside the cobwebs and the last of the summer potted blooms aside, really take [...]
